With the end of the year quickly approaching and the hair styling products put to good use with all of the holiday parties, I thought I would discuss some of my favorite hair products.  I have a lot of hair but have always struggled with volume and keeping curls in tact.  This time of year, we tend to use the curling irons and hair straighteners more often which also means product buildup and hair damage. I’m sure most of us can agree that our biggest hair “issues” are 1) achieving volume and 2) preserving the health of our hair.  To pump up the volume and protect my hair, I turned to Living Proof.

Before: Lightly curled hair; No product
After: Living Proof Dry Volume Blast & Living Proof Dry Shampoo

I used to wash my hair everyday. I wished I didn’t have to but my hair would get oily and look greasy if I didn’t clean it.  Why shouldn’t we wash our hair everyday?  Well for one, the more you shampoo, the more you potentially remove oils needed to protect hair shafts and keep the scalp healthy and moisturized.  Second, the less you process and touch your hair, the less it breaks.  I can confidently say that since using Living Proof shampoo, conditioner and styling products, I’ve found I can finally wash my hair every other day.  On top of that, their products are safe and formulated for color and chemically treated hair.  Their products are also made without parabens are sulfates.  More details behind the science of Living Proof are here, but below are my reviews of my favorite products:

Living Proof Full Shampoo and Conditioner:  If you struggle with flat hair, this shampoo/conditioner combo is for you.  I found that when used with the Full Dry Volume Blast, my hair has much more volume than it used to.  They’re also made without parabens or sulfates.  You may ask, “why is this important?”  Well, parabens are chemicals that prevent bacteria and act as a preservative in many beauty products. Sulfates are effective cleansing and foaming agents. Together, they may cause issues such as drying, irritating your scalp and fading hair color.  Shampoos and conditioners that are sulfate and paraben free actually keep the hair moisturized (as a result, are less prone to breakage and split ends).

Living Proof Perfect Hair Day Dry Shampoo: I have tried many dry shampoos and this is by far my favorite as I feel it actually cleans my hair.  It contains fast-absorbing powders that soak up oil and sweat, has a mild scent, and is formulated without parabens, sulfates or phthalates.   To use: After sectioning your hair into large pieces, spray the roots about 10″ away.  Let it sit for a minute or so and lightly brush through the hair with a comb.

Living Proof Blowout: This spray provides heat protection to your hair and provides extra hold while blow drying your hair.  Personally, I much prefer the Full Dry Volume Blast (below) as I think it holds the hair better, but I like the added heat protection with this product.

Living Proof Full Dry Volume Blast: After sectioning your hair into large pieces, spray from root to end about 10″ away.  I usually wait a few seconds and scrunch my hair at the roots a bit.  It instantly adds volume that actually lasts most of the day! It also doesn’t leave your hair feeling hard and crunchy like hairspray.  If you struggle with flat, weighed down hair, this product is a must!

Living Proof Perfect Hair Day Night Cap Overnight Perfector: Before going to bed, apply a dime size amount throughout your damp or dry hair. Run your fingers through your hair and leave on overnight. This cream protects your color and adds softness and shine. An added bonus: it’s made without sulfates, silicone, or oil. I honestly don’t see much of a difference the next day, but I do like the mild scent and added shine.
