I think we can all agree that winter is harsh on our hair and skin. With the heat blasting and the crisp, cold air, it’s difficult to keep our hair and skin hydrated. In the office I have a space heater under my desk (I’m always cold) and at home we have radiator heat. I used to feel like no matter how much I moisturized I could not escape dry skin and hair – until I found the products below!
My first step is to apply the drybar Hot Toddy heat protector. Last time I went to the salon my hairstylist highly recommended I start using something to protect my hair from the heat as I blow dry my hair every other day. Due to blow drying, the heater under my desk, and straightening or curling, I was getting split ends pretty quickly. I also have a balayage so my color wasn’t lasting as long as I’d like it to. This all changed right after I starting using this heat protector.
I put a penny-sized amount throughout my damp hair (focusing on the ends) and then blow dry. It smells amazing and I have honestly seen a huge improvement in the overall health of my hair.
Next I use a dime-sized amount of moroccan oil on damp hair. This is known as the best oil for your hair and I see why! My hair is extra shiny after each use. If I’m going out with friends or to dinner I usually add a tiny amount to the ends of my hair again once it’s dry for even more shine. This small bottle will last you months!
After blowdrying my hair I spray this anti-frizz shield and hairspray to keep everything in place. I tend to get frizz in winter and summer and this frizz shield is the first product I’ve found that keeps the frizz under control. Everyone get’s ‘fly-aways’ but this will help fight humidity in summer and the dry air in winter. If you don’t wash your hair everyday (you shouldn’t – read why in this post), this Living Proof dry shampoo is my go-to. ‘Skip Days’ don’t have to feel gross – it actually cleans your hair in between shampoos.
First I use this First Aid Beauty Hyrdating Serum (as mentioned in this post). It’s perfect for under makeup (let it dry/set for a minute or two) and your skin will immediately feel more plump. Next I use this Drunk Elephant moisturizer. I had heard great things about the Drunk Elephant brand that I decided to see what the hype was all about. It has no scent (perfect for sensitive skin) and it visibly brightens and improves your skin’s firmness. It’s not too thick and since using it day and night, my skin has felt moisturized throughout the entire day! It’s a bit pricey but personally I’d rather invest in good skincare by saving in other ways (skip Starbucks and make your own coffee. The savings add up!).
Next I use the BECCA First Light Filter Face Primer. It immediately brightens your complexion. It looks violet but applies sheer and is very light. Definitely the best primer I have ever used. If I’m going for a no makeup look this is the only “makeup” I wear.
Lastly, this Anderson Lilley body cream is perfect for skin that is in desperate need of a serious moisture boost. The cream is thick and is made without parabens, pegs, artificial colors, petrolatum and mineral oil. This particular one smells just like tangerine but they also offer this one that smells more like white jasmine.
