I’m not one who spends a lot of time on their makeup routine, but I do love trying new products. In the last year or so I’ve become much more conscious about the products I use on my skin. I care about the ingredients and the brand must be cruelty-free. Many people cringe at the price of many “higher end” beauty products at Sephora, but personally, I would much rather invest more in my skin and save in other ways. For example, I make my own coffee every morning and rarely go to Starbucks.
Sephora only has a few sales a year, but one of the best ones begins TODAY for ‘ROUGE’ members. Their annual ‘Beauty Insider Event’ begins 11/3-11/6 for ‘ROUGE’ members and 11/10- 11/15 for ‘VIB’ and ‘INSIDER’ members. If you’re a ‘ROUGE or ‘VIB’, you receive 20% off your purchase. ‘INSIDER’s receive 15% off. The sale is both in-store and online, so take advantage and stock up on your favorite products for yourself or a loved one for the holidays! If you’re not signed up with their rewards program, sign up here (it’s free!).
Below is a list of my favorite cruelty-free makeup products, face oils, moisturizers and face masks that I’ve tried and love. I’ve also included my wishlist of items I may have to try. Keep in mind you can always ask an associate at Sephora for a sample before you buy!
Drunk Elephant Marula Face Oil: Perfect for use during the dry fall and winter months, this oil is perfect when in need of a stronger moisturizer. It’s perfect for sensitive skin and is untouched by any chemical or fragrance, natural or synthetic. Think of it as the perfect, everyday, heavier nighttime moisturizer.
Sunday Riley Luna Night Oil: Another one of my favorite face oils. I alternate use between this one and the Marula oil above. This one targets the appearance of wrinkles and redness. The color goes from deep blue to clear when it is rubbed into the skin.
Sunday Riley Power Couple Duo: If you’re looking for a nighttime routine that targets wrinkles and fine lines, try this. The ‘Good Genes’ contains lactic acid while Luna contains trans-retinol ester and moisturizing botanical oils. Combined they fight all signs of aging. This combo is also more of a sample size. If you fall in love with the products, you can buy them individually here and here.
Urban Decay (Naked 2) Eyeshadow Palette: I rarely wear eye shadow, but I use this palette for special occasions or if I want to wear eyeliner. The palette contains 12 neutrals and a double-ended shadow/blending brush. I use the colors ‘Busted’ (a deep brown shimmer) or ‘Blackout’ (a black matte) as eyeliner.
Anastasia Brow Definer: My favorite eyebrow brush and pencil in one. I love how the pencil is angled. It comes in ten different shades so I would recommend buying this one in stores to find the best color for you.
Fresh Sugar Lip Treatment Sunscreen SPF 15: I use this tinted chapstick (as I call it 😉 ) everyday. I rarely wear lipstick and this provides the perfect about of everyday color. I love the Petal tint, but you have 14 colors to choose from! It also contains SPF 15 – perfect for everyday wear.
Bareminerals SPF 20 Foundation: I alternate between this foundation and the SuperGoop! CC Cream. If I’m going out and want a little more coverage, this is my go-to foundation. It never feels caked on and my skin still feels like it can breathe. It comes in 30 shades so I would recommend buying this one in-store to ensure the perfect match with your skintone.
BECCA Setting Powder: The first time I used this product I had received it complimentary thanks to Influenster (sign up here if you’re interested. They send you free products to try!). I had never used a setting powder before but I was very surprised at how much I liked it. I use this during my “makeup free” days but want just a dash of coverage before I run out the door. I apply it with the Soft Kabuki Brush and am good to go. It almost acts as a lighter bronzer to give you a little bit of a glow.
Bareminerals Eye Brightener: This is my favorite makeup product that I own. Just a little swipe below each eye and those scary dark circles disappear. It instantly illuminates and brightens the under-eye area and can make you look awake even on days with no sleep! (Also love this similar BECCA concealer if you’re looking for even more coverage under your eyes)
Ciate London Wonderwand Mascara: I also tried this product for the first time thanks to Influenster. Mascara’s generally all seem pretty similar to me but I love the brush on this one. The mascara is volumizing and the mascara rarely clumps. Win win!
BECCA Face Primer: Perfect to wear before a long flight or when running errands all day. This lightweight primer give you an added glow and can be used on all skin tones and skin types!
Too Faced Mascara: This mascara is the number one bestselling mascara in the US and I see why! The brush actually separates your lashes and lasts all day (smudge-free in my experience). It’s very similar to the Wonderwand mascara mentioned above (and only $1 more!). I’d recommend trying both and see which one you like more!
SuperGoop! CC Cream SPF 35+: This is my go-to, everyday cc cream (similar to a foundation). I love how it has SPF 35+ and provides medium coverage. After applying it does not look cakey and is so lightweight you forget you’re wearing anything at all.
Drunk Elephant Glycolic Night Serum: This night serum (like a gel) contains 12% AHA/BHA which means glycolic, lactic, tartaric, citric, and salicylic acid are combined to assist with discolored and oily skin. This serum is not drying and a little goes a long way. I use it every 3 or so nights and alternate with some of the moisturizers below.
Sunday Riley Antioxidant Moisturizer: This hydrating moisturizer is full of vitamin C and has the most refreshing scent of orange. It’s a little thicker and perfect to apply before bed during the cold, dry winter months.
Drunk Elephant Intensive Hydration Gel: This hydrating gel is perfect after freshly cleansed skin in the morning. It’s not thick and provides just the right amount of hydration before applying makeup. The only downside is that it does not contain SPF. If you use this under the SuperGoop! CC Cream mentioned above, you’re good to go!
Drunk Elephant Day Serum: I alternate this serum and the hydration gel above. This one is packed with vitamin C to brighten your complexion and is super light.
Drunk Elephant Whipped Cream: If you’re looking for a nighttime moisturizer with no fragrance, this one is for you. It’s on the thicker side and perfect for the upcoming dry winter months. I alternate it with the Sunday Riley moisturizer mentioned above.
Farmacy Honey Potion Antioxidant Hydration Mask: My favorite mask during the winter month. It’s a little sticky at first (but comes with a metal spoon for application) but when you rub it on your skin it gets warm. I leave it on for 20 minutes and my skin is hydrated and glowing!
Glow Recipe Sleeping Mask: I’ve only tried a sample of this mask, but I can’t wait to purchase the full product. It’s the same idea as the honey potion mask above (but slightly less expensive). For those of you sensitive to smells, this one has a slight fruity smell.
Drunk Elephant Sukari Babyfacial: This is a heavy mask. By heavy, I mean it is not hydrating – it contains 25% AHA and 2% BHA (double the glycolic night serum mentioned above!). This mask is really meant to resurface and exfoliate the skin. I use it about once a month and love how refreshed and smooth my skin looks after use. If you have sensitive skin, I’d recommend getting a sample first.
Hourglass Lighting Palette: I’ve always been a fan of BECCA brightening products, but I’ve wanted to give this one a try for awhile. I love the three neutral shades and a quick swipe on both cheeks supposedly brightens your entire face.
Erno Laszlo Sleep Mask: This is definitely the priciest on my wish list, but when Audrey Hepburn said, “I owe 50% of my beauty to my mother and the other 50% to Erno Laszlo”, who wouldn’t want to try this brand?! This mask is supposed to plump and mega-moisturize your skin. Sign me up!
Korres Wild Rose Vitamin C Active Brightening Oil: Another vitamin C/brightening booster, I’ve heard great things about this face oil. The only downside can be the stronger rose smell (if you’re sensitive to scents).
